Interviewing Others

This material covers choosing questions, setting up an interview, practicing, and the necessary subsequent assessment and discussion.

Many of the characteristics inherently necessary to be a good interviewer mirror attributes found in good conversationalists. Much like in regular conversations, a genuine interest in learning about another is key to a good interview. This activity is a comprehensive resource to help students practice interviewing others (such as family members, friends, or school staff), allowing those who feel apprehensive about interviews to quickly relax and feel more competent. It helps learners master conversational skills such as asking follow-up questions to extend conversations and to make their conversation partner feel genuinely heard. Therapeutic notes are included to help facilitate an execution of the multi-step activity.
